Cleaning experience in the 86

I can't believe the stuff I found in this 15 year old that has been seriously neglected interior wise.

I took out the carpet in the back and planned to trim my own red carpet for the back (anyone else interested?), tried taking out the seats to clean the carpet, but I can only remove the front bolts off, don't know how to take off the rear bolts for the seats.

I removed the handbrake and shifter casing, and Lysol'ed and armor-all'd it, and plan to paint it another colour.

More problems I find in the car

Handbrake - I adjusted the bolt, still loose as I pull the emergency brake all the way up, what's wrong with it?

Brake lights won't come on, bulbs are fine

Interior dome lights won't come on, bulbs are fine

It seems the last owner changed the fuse, but still no juice

I want to take out the back seat and clean everything, I need to pick up a manual this weekend~~~

Steering wheel, anyone got a smaller wheel, this one makes me feel like driving a bus. Hehehehe.

Man, I never had so much fun cleaning a car that dirty. Taking things apart and putting it back together clean and shiny just makes my day!

if you are talking about the rear bolt of the rear seats, you gotta flip down the seats

if you got time this weekend, i can swing by if you need an extra pair of hands.

Cyril,

You really want to get your hands dirty?

Hahaha, I've gotta remove the seats, front and back this weekend and completely shampoo the carpets!

What kind of shampoo do i need?

Thanks

Arthur

That's funny cause when I was in comets' car I smelled gas distinctly too.

Personally I shampooed my interior with "The Little Green Machine" .. I think Bisel makes it. I also use the detergent stuff .. Bisel, in the blue container ... smells good and the smell complete disappears in about a week.

I found in the 86 even AFTER I shampooed EVERYTHING .. including the visors and the ceiling ... it still smelled a little funky. So I just bought one of those larger air freshener's and it's just enough to overpower the funk smell.

Does the E-break work? I had the same problem in my last GT-S. This happened because there was no E-break cable. But If they work then I don't know.

Smells like gas eh? You sure it is from the car? hehe
I got some JDM wax type air freshner for $4.99, my car smells like peach now!

Jerry, the gasoline smell disappeared now, perhaps I was right, I overfilled the gastank.

Anyone interested in the rear carpets as I mentioned before?
I am going to get some thick bright red carpets that is absorbant for the truck covers. Might cost around $40-$50?

your brake lights wont come on at all if you press brake pedal....

I also had this problem with my first AE86.... I fixed it with a little piece of a pencil, but this turned out to be an annouing problem/// so i went to toyota and the replaced the little switch/button under/in brake pedal... cant remember price anymore.. and i dont feel like it, just say that it was more than i think it was worth ..
