I have just signed up for this forum today, and already have seen all the problems that I have with my Corolla listed here by many people. So I can only speak on behalf of the 2005s (I have a 05 Corolla S). I have experienced the start problem, the poor gas milage (I get 27mpg when I thought I might get 35mpg, this yields about in extra $300 on fuel costs), and the trunk closing problem (I was about to get on the highway and didn't realize the trunk didn't close until a friendly person honked their horn to tell me). Hopefully, for the 06s Toyota didn't overlook these quality issues.

I have an '05 CE, 5 speed wit 6500 miles - - - I'm getting approx. 38 mpg ?? I easily go 420-430 miles on a tank before filling up - - my daily commute is 90% highway (75 mph).

I don't think I've experienced the starting problem either - - how long are you cranking the engine before it starts, that you consider it a problem ?? And I've not even heard of a trunk
issue, again maybe I'm just lucky

05 XRS here.

I get around 30mpg in the city (I hardly ever use the highway) and thats with the 2zz engine and the occasional late night 0-60 test . I have had no issues with starting and the trunk closes fine.

So far I think I made an excellent choice and have had zero issues other than that dang rattle that comes from the sliding sunroof cover when it's in the back position, but I think I hear that becasue the rest of the car is soooo quiet inside.

Just figured out that my 2006 Corolla S is getting me around 43 mpg on the highway...got 460 miles since last fill-up and it was 10.7 gallons from practically empty (gas light was on) to full to back to almost empty again. I am a happy camper And it's an automatic and lots of hills in Pittsburgh PA!
