1991 Corolla Motor help

Okay guys, let me pick your nose, errr.. brain rather.

I bought a 1991 Corolla with a knock in the engine for $300 on ebay. Driving home I put a rod through the side of the block. Smoke was everywhere!!

What code is my moter?? (AEIOU??) What non-JDM motor will hook up like stock?? Can a newer Corolla motor hook up easy?? 1996, 1995?? What about JDM, when you get one, how do you find parts?? Valve cover gaskets, Distributor caps, etc...? Call NAPA in Osaka??

Any ideas on putting a motor in my car for cheap would be appreciated. I'm near Omaha, NE?

Brad

Thanks in advance for the helpful advice.

huh. sorry to hear about the motor that is too bad. as the motor goes i would belive you have a 4AFE motor in your car.you can look on the bottom side of your hood also, it should be on a white sticker. you can go on ebay for decent motors. depending on the company you buy from. i believe that you would be able to install a 7AFE motor from the '93 to '97 with minor wiring or sensor changing i am not positive about that you will have to check into that more. the 4AGE motors will fit also but they require the ecu and wiring harness to add additonal wires to your existing harness and a lil bit to the mounts. but you might want to source that more. good luck

the engine in that car should be a 4a-fe, and should be fuel injected, if i were you id call some scrap yards and ask around see what you can find, just be careful if something sounds too good to be true it probably is if something has low miles its probably been sitting a long time, not good...

With JDM engines there are usually subtle differences be sure to notice these differences, if you do go this way use all the original sensors from the old engine.

Also make your life easier and when you get a engine replace:
-timing belt
-cam seal
-crank seal
-rear main seal
-water pump (at least check condition)
-thermostat

anyways good luck with the project and don't get too stressed over it its not that hard...

Thanks, the car looks terrible because of faded paint, but I'm happy as a pig in you-know-what that it is rust-free. Anybody know how to COMPLETELY remove that cigarette smell from the interior, I'm allergic to it??
