two questions, exhaust and engine knock

quick questions,

1. when water is coming out from the exhaust pipe, what is wrong with the car?

2. when there is a knocking noise coming from the engine, what is wrong with the car? is it the rod going out? time for a new car? expensive to repair?

If its alot of water, u prolly blown your head gasket and hydrolocked that cylinder which would bend or break your con-rod.

If its just a drip, thats normal for the combustion process. Depends on air temp & humidity if water drips out of the exhaust as a liquid or a saturated vapor

knock sensor only detects pinging (well its only supposed to do that), but if its a bottom end bearing, its not knocking or detonation, but its a different knock.

Knocking isnt good i know that much, but late model toyotas have knock sensors so a check engine light should come on if your car is knocking, unless of course your car doenst have one(knock sensor that is). But knocking can be a couple of things and without hearing it, its hard to say what is causing it.

what are all the different knocking noise out there? but....how about a knocking noise like metal on metal knock?? and it gets louder/worse if you rev the engine, kinda like a rock tumbling in a can or something

Sounds like pistonslap, bearing, mechanical knock...
Theres lots of parts that can knock, and its not necessarily pinging caused by ignition/mixture.

if you dont know enough about the sounds that can come from an engine or are not mechanically inclined you need to take it to a shop and have it checked out. They will probably be able to give a pretty good idea without doing much to it. Then you can get them to go deeper to determine how much it will cost to repair it.

As far as what can knock here a a few, wrist pin, rod bearing, crank bearing, cam wearing in head, cam lobes worn off and making noise on lifter buckets, water pump gone bad, and there are others. The thing is each one has its own noise for the most part.

Water coming out of the tail pipe is normal to a certain extent. Is the vehcile over heating when it is running, have you checked your coolant to make sure it is full. IF it is over heating or the coolant is low it could very well be a head gasket leaking. If those are ok then it is probably normal compustion engine condenstaion.
