AE92 Engine dies when steering maxes out

I've had this problem with my '90 Corolla. Whenever I turn my steering either direction and it reaches the end, the engine tends to die on me. It happens pretty often, especially when I'm getting out of a tight parking spot. Btw, it's got an auto transmission. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks in advance.

Right, you're not supposed to go to the end, it stresses the pump and stresses the steering rack.

typical TN forum people post even if they don't know the answer

corolla's run an electronic switch on the steering rack. when it reaches the limit of travel the switch opens a valve bleeding air around the TB raising the idle (which will stop the car stalling) not 100% familiar with your model but they are normally a cople of air lines on top of the TB or could be a broken wire.

AE92

Thanks, punter. Forgive my ignorance , but what does TB stand for? My Corolla is a '90 AE92 liftback, with a 4AF engine.

TB = Throttle Body.
Punter is correct - check for proper operation of that switch.
