bypass valve, etc

I'm installing a cold air intake on my 05 S, is an air bypass valve a waste of money? Additionally, are hypervoltage systems useless? Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

It all depends on where your filter is.

If it was right in the middle of the bumper or anywhere water could splash on it, I'd just do a short ram, or keep the stock airbox on.

If it is hidden inside of the front bumper, protected on 5 of 6 sides by plastic, I would not worry. My injen is so tucked away a tidal wave wouldhave to come up and from the passenger side to even splash the filter, much less submerge it. I don't know where your filter is though.

A bypass kind of nullifies the CAI anyway, it puts a big interuption in the air flow. I won't consider a bypass valve, it's either a bareback CAI or a short ram for me.

Good luck!

Just avoid all puddles. Any puddle that cover half the wheel is bad with or without a CAI. For the engine to get hydrolock, you'll need to drive into a puddle cover the whole wheel. Another reason for hydrolock is bad design CAI which trap water at the bends.

Oh we're talking one of those useless AEM bypass valve things, I thought we were talking about REAL bypass valves.
