Damn it, it seems my 89 GTS has sprung a bad oil leak.. well actually it got bigger. I knew it was there and I didnt' bother with it because the 90 was on the road, well now it seems like its BIG. I got the car on the road sunday for its winter duties, parked it at my building and go downstairs to go to work.. the leak looks the same as before, small puddle nothing maybe losing a quarter of a liter every two weeks the most. So I go to work last night, park the car over night then 7am comes around I start the car to come home. Just for the hell of it I move and think, I wonder how the leak is doing now. Sure enough I back up.. BIG puddle! I'm talking like a quarter of a liter on the ground.. I'm like NOOO! WTF! don't do this to me now! At this point I'm now considering NOT fixing it and sitting the car till the spring as I don't think I want to put money into it anymore, I rather put money into the 90 GTS which was the idea, upgrade suspension and most likely re-paint, wheels, etc.
Now this leaves me a few options, drive it and keep putting oil in it.. fix the motor (345,000km would you?), get a low KM JDM motor for it (not a bad idea, probably cost the same as fixing the leak and whatever else is wrong) OR selling the car either as a whole or parting it out. I would probably make more out of the car parting it out as the suspension alone basically cost me almost $1000 installed plus whatever else the car has gotten done to it in the last 2yrs, new rear calipers rotors, new rad, new axle-back muffler, Timing belt, new DR side fender, etc. I most likely would end up getting another beater as I'm not considering driving the 90 GTS in the winter, but if I have to I'll have to spend in winter tires and rustproofing. Grrrr
Another choice I thought of was buying this for $750 http://images.trader.ca/autotrader/1....jpg.fpx?large
It be an interesting entry into the world of drifting for me, and it sounds like the car is in decent shape (82,000KM only).
Damn.. just another great day I guess.. decisions decisions.
man if you part the whole car out you should hook me up i definatly have all that random crap thats annoyingly broken on my car
are your oem shift knob and steering wheel in good condition cause i would like to replace mine the leather looks like shit now
Sorry to hear about it bro. Id be interested in some parts from your car i didnt have to buy new brakes and brakes accesories which are gonna cost me somthing like 600 bucks. If i were a gambling man, which im not i would fix the thing. Only cause its your twin.
Where abouts is it leaking? The oil pans not a huge problem, nor is the front cover, I read some where that the oil pressure sending units on the Corollas leaks and causes massive engine failure.I actually think it's a TSB.

I actually think its the sending unit.. I haven't got a chance to look at it, but I'm almost 90% sure its the damn sending unit. I'll probably get it looked at today sometime.. I'll have to buy some oil first. Worse comes to worst... time for a 20V track car.
i'm willing to bet distributor. i've never seen a 4age leak at the pressure sending unit..... however, almost every 4age i've seen leaks through the dizzy some how.
or you could just run it like my friend does to his 89 n/a mr2..... he never changes the oil, it just burns & leaks so much that he just adds it as he needs it, lol. It's lasted quite a while like this (over a year) including racing the car.

hmm... you know what.. I was looking at some oil from that area, I assumed it might be from the valve cover. Would a gasket on the dizzy solve the problem?? or is there no gasket in that area?
well where is the leak comming from? My 89 had a small leak also, but it was just from around the oil pan, since toyota decided it was a good idea from 1985 on to stop using oil pan gaskets and to use just silicon...
Well that sure sucks Ren. Thats like me and my car..awww well, was gunna get bodywork done but now my steering rack is fucked. It's tough to decide if its worth it.

hmmm.. Jody AKA Kbox, he used to come around here before.. haven't seen him in a while. I remember when his car was just as beat up as mine. I'll have to check it out to see what he sells the kits for.
lol damn *snaps fingers* well there goes my attempt to get another steering wheel but yeah if its just replacing a bunch of gaskets then i would do it way more worth it than giving up your other red gts! man your hogging like 10% of all the ae92's lol

oh my.. please tell me you're not seriously considering buying that car?
if you can't fix the problem on your GTS now then forget that 81 Corolla. that's more headache. btw, i've talked to Jover and he saw the car and said that it's not as mint as advertised. just go get a 20V motor and be done with it!
