Unhappy Engine temperature problems

Hy to all the members

I have the 1990 corolla sedan with 1.3 Xli 2E-E 12v engine. It`s a great car. The only problem with it is that in the summer when i drive it arround 130 Km/h+ (74 mph + ) it starts to overheat. It comes close to the red mark. It helps a bit if i turn on the heater ( does not have the AC ).When i drive arround 100 km/h ( 62.1 mph) the heat indicator stays in the middle ( as it should ). In heavy traffic or at Idle the temp gauge gets to tne midle and the radiator fan comes on and off normaly. In winter or at lower temperatures the engine temperature stays very low. The indicator rises for a centimeter and than stays there . If i turn on the heating and ventilation than the darn thing stays cold and engine runs with cold start RPM. The mechanic changed my thermostat thing and its still the same. All the engine fluids are o.k.
Fuel consumption is 7.5 litres per 100 km or ( 31.36 miles per gallon ).

THX

it could be anything...thermostat...try replacing that...if that doesn't help...could be head gasket issues....

thx for the reply. I will try the termostat. Buyin and fit in the original one. Also i noticed that there is some brownish residue on the expansion hose that goes to the bottom of the metntioned container. I will flush the engine and fill in the fresh antifre. . I hope its not the gasket thing. That would complicate the whole situation a lot.

MRQTurbo thats one awsome car u got there. (tha picture) i love the mr2 but this one is really something. Do u have some more pictures of that beast ?

thank you again. I will post my resoults as soon as i get some !!
