90 Corolla Slips into Neutral from 4th and 5th gear, HELP

Hi Guys (and gals)

We recently bought a '90 Corolla and it was slipping from 5th gear into neutral. After about a month of driving it, it now slips from 4th into neutral. (as well as 5th) Today I replaced the shift lever bushings and seat, to no avail...........

Linkage is not binding and bushings at the tranny are tight. Motor mounts and tranny mounts are all good, transaxle is tight to the engine. What could be causing this? (Im opting for an easy fix, NOT shifter forks!!, but if it needs it.......)

it's the tranny..... C50's are notorious for 4th or 5th gear popout

Any idea what exactly in the tranny is bad? Shifter forks made from inferior metals or ????

The synchros aren't very strong, but you can swap in the C52 which is a lot better. In fact, I have one here if you're interested.

The syncros for 5th on my C52 went too.. but the motor/transimission have 345,000km though.

Yah, my C52 in my MR2 was bad in 5th too. You're arm gets mighty tired on the highway for 300 miles to Dr Tweaks

that's why you use a piece of string and tie it to a bolt nearby and be able to slip it over the shifter :p

haha.. elastic bands do the trick too.
