ebay help...

Here is a new motor for my '91 Corolla that I bought and is sitting in my garage: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWN%3AIT&rd=1

Now here is another one just like it by the same seller using the exact same pictures: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-1...QQcmdZViewItem

Now what is going on?? I realize that the Geo Prizm motor and the corolla motor were the same, but this auction lists a GM part number and has a picture of the word "TOYOTA" on the side of the block. Is this shortblock assembled here in USA or in Japan?? (there is some Japanese-looking writing on the box but some English too).

Anyone running one of these 'new' motors??

Brad

I'm not sure if I get your reply. Anyway a brand new shortblock from Japan with the word TOYOTA on the side of the block seems like a good deal to me. I'll keep everyone posted on how it runs when I get it installed.

Another one is on ebay with the same exact pictures: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Only 375, delivered.

anyone else have one of these motors??

some corolla's were sold to GM as either nova's or prism's they had all toyota parts. whats happening is that this guy is using the GM part number to sell it everythiing is basically the same between the two motors just one is made by toyota for toyota the other is made by toyota for GM i wouldn't worry about it they are surely interchangeable

it is all good. The guy probably has several of them and instead of taking pictures of each one use the same picture for all of them.
The COrolla dn Prizm were manufactured by both GM and TOyota at the NUMMI plant in Fremont California. THe plant is a joint venture between GM and TOyota. THe Corolla and prizm mechanicals are all Toyota and the bodies of each is really the only major difference between them.
IF you can get the shortblock for that low it sounds like a great deal.

Yeah, I know. A few of my buddies from the Navy when they got out went to work at NUMMI (sp?). Yeah, too bad I'm broke or I'd pick up another Corolla shortblock for $375, you can't rebuild them for that.
I guess I have to pull the motor and tranny together then separate them huh?? The motor can't move more than 1 inch to the passenger side because of the water pump being close to the strut-tower and the torque-converter is inside the tranny by a lot more than 1". I hope my boog gets here today...

Actually the Corollas were and still are built at TMMC in Cambridge, Ontario Canada. The nummi plant only built the Prizms I believe and couple of other cars.

SOme of the Corollas were built at the NUMMI plant. I had a 97 that was built there. THey may not be anymore but used to be. I dont know waht percentage of the production took place there though. Even if you look at the history of the Corolla on one of the websites I have seen it states the Corolla was built there along with the Prizmand the Gen1 Tacos were. Here is NUMMI's website and list waht they build and waht they used to build.
