PCV Valve question....

Hey guys!!!Been away for a while I know but I had to make the time to ask this question. But first a short story:Last week my 89 Corolla (wagon) wouldnt idle.I sent it to my local dealer and they cleaned the carburettor, tuned the engine and changed the PCV valve. My question is,what exactly does this thing do??Theres no mention of its function in my Hanes manual.Anyone have any ideas???Btw,the car runs fine now.

actually it should be in the haynes manual under emissions or tuneup, it controls gas movement for quality idle, simple function, simple replacement. what happens is it can get clogged up.

yup...to prevent oil sludge...oil sludge is created when there's a mixture with unburned fuel and the engine oil.....unburned fuel (blowby gas) leaks from combustion chamber thru the ring. it jus takes the blow by gas back to intake.... the valve only opens during idle and deccelerating....its really important to check this valve when its old...
