I don't have tons of cash, and this would mean selling/parting out my AE92 Trueno clone.
It is for sale locally, and the guy is holding it for me till this weekend.
Here are the specs:
1985 Toyota Corolla 4age Twin Cam 5 speed 'racing clutch' (his words, not sure what that means) 'ported, polished, and shaved head' (his words again) GTS rear end No catalytic converter (I would have to install one for MA) Comes with 'aftermarket exhaust' not installed Bumpers are included, not installed.
Engine is strong, tranny is strong, interior and exterior needs work. Needs a sensor for the throttle, so the car takes a while to start because of it. (what sensor could this be?)
The car obviously needs body work, though he stresses that it is just the quarters that are rotted. All missing parts and trim are included... in the trunk.
All SR5's came with the 4ac, right? So this would be a swap? Could it be a newer JDM swap? That would rule
Also, what kind of rims are those, I LOVE them! And, is that a JDM front end, or is that stock USDM?
He is asking $500 for the car as it sits. Clean paperwork, title included. Drive home.
Is it worth it for me to buy it, even it it were just to part the car out? Or is it a heap, and I shouldn't bother? I don't know if the non-hatch AE86's are even desireable or not!
It looks a bit rough, I would say find a good straight body ( one and the transplant all the 4age stuff over), would probably be eaiser and cheaper than fixing that one. And yes that car didn't come with a 4age as standard.
One thing to check is which gearbox it has, If the clutch is hydralic (sp?)
then its a T50 which is Good, If its cable then its a K50 which is not as strong
(a K50 will be fine as long as your nice to it)
for 500 bucks it sounds like a fun project !! im not sure if it would be worth partking out your ae92 for this but either way theirs alot of work to be done... Dont buy to just "part it out" their is allways sumbody out their looking for one of these.. i think initial D made the HAtch desirable lol i think all ae86's are desirable who wouldnt want a 4age & RWD together ?

i wouldnt get rid of your ae92 for that cause im betting your ae92 is in alot better condition 500$ isnt that much for a car man i could afford that in a couple weeks
Yeah.. find an SR5 AE86 which are usually kept in way better condition by the old ladies that drive them, then swap all the components from this GTS to the SR5.
$500 for a motor and suspension attached to a rusty frame? I'd say offer him $250 and go from there.
if i put the time and money into that car i wouldnt let it go for that Lol

yea looks really rough, wouldn't pay 500 for that :p. If you part your ae92 out tell me :p lol
You said somehting about not being sure if the coupe ae86 was desireable... well thats up to you. If you like the look of the coupe then good, if not then don't bother with it. Same goes for the hatch. Don't be looking at the car because it's Popular. There is no point in buying it if you don't like it
he said the engine and tranny are in good condition That alone should be worth it

the amount of money you'll be spending to convert this to GT-S would be more than just buying a complete stock GT-S. try searching for a GT-S at hachiroku.net or club4ag.com, it'll be worth it. trust the $500 you'll be paying will look too expensive when you start fixing that car. the miscelleanous GT-S parts alone are harder to find now.
btw, if the buyer says it's got "port and polish head", forget that motor then chances are someone played around (practise) with that. to properly port and polish a 4A-GE will cost you more than $500. i'd pick a stock 4A-C over that so called "ported and polished" motor.
