2002 AE86

Most of you probably already know this... but Toyota started to reproduce the AE86 Trueno Sprinter using TRD components...

the car is a brand new car (2002 sticker on it) and can only be bought in japan so far... It is also very limited in production and I am guessing it costs around 30 G USD...

you can find more details in Best Motoring August 2002 (FR SPECIAL) video...

anyways... I have been hearing rumours that they may be selling it in north america soon...

however this is just a rumour... has anyone heard something remotely related?

hrmmm...

The white panda AE86 that they feature first... with the carbon fibre hood...
that is a brand new 2002 model...
(they compare turn times between the ae86, DC5 type r, and R34 GTR)

the video I am talking about starts off with the news of the JZA80 Supra being discontinued...

it also features a 5 lap battle between a

FD RX-7
2002 BMW M3
older BMW M3
S2000
a 1986 ae86
and the new 2002 TRD AE86

are we talking about the same video here?

Are you saying that they're reproducing the Levin/Trueno as it was?

ooook i get what u're saying now, lol

the "new" AE86 you saw isn't a 2002 model, its a AE86 built by TRD just for dori dori (Keiichi Tsuchiya), it has the 20V, and the exterior matches your description, white with CF hood

so technically it IS a new car, but not a NEW AE86, definately NOT a production AE86

and you see his car before the aug 2002 too

you scared me for a sec there

Are you sure?
Why would they remake an old car?
Are you sure it was not a replica made by Toyota for the Initial D movie?

ding!

ahh ic now

I thought I had seen it before in previous videos... but I hoped it was what I thought it was: a 2002 reproduction model of the AE86 sprinter trueno

nuts... and I was hoping they would actually begin reproduction...

Initial D isn't a good subject to bring up... but for the movie I hear toyota is building 3 custom ae86 for the movie *Jackie Chan directing...
you guys hear anything on that?

yes many ppl heard this rumour too, it was around long ago actually, but no news, hopefully it WON'T come out, plus i also don't like that edison dude

but if its something like the racing movie jacky chan starred in years ago (with the mitsubishis) then thats a different story

and yes stop mentioning initial D, its for your own good

if you think toyota will build 3 brand spankin new AE86es for the HK movie..think again.

the japanese, as far as i know, looks down on HK drivers

don't believe me? watch Hot Version w/ the 2.0L N/A tune as the main theme. i remember this line that Keiichi used on another host when he said how he broke somethin off a honda in a race.

"anata wa hong kong jin desu ka??" ..and they all had a chuckle.

and from a cost benefit point of view... toyota will loose a ton of cash by doing that.

so i doubt that'll happen.
