the 80s were sweet, lots of car company seemed to be making cool sports cars. nissan had 200sxT, mazda had miata, toyota had ae86
by cool sports cars i mean light weight, Front engine rear-wheele drive, with good to great power....
now there are not many cars like this being made ever since the 90s started it seems... in order to get a new FR car now you have to go luxury... BMW, Mercedies, Lexus, Infinity... and so on....
I would think there is a market for super basic no luxury small sports cars today like AE86 because there are in so high demand now...
~~~of course there are cars like RX7(FD3S&FC3S) and Supra... but these cars arent small and light weight...
I think that toyota needs to make a new small basic FR ~ I think they should start making fun cool cars again....i think people will buy them/i would// i want a new car but they just dont make what i want.. thats why i have 86
what the ppl were just discussing this yesterday! there isn't a big enough market for these cars! toyota won't profit in making a sporty car such as an 86!!
and i think there ARE loads of cool cars today
and there IS currently a lightweight small FR car.......MIATA!!! the modern 86!
its not jus about marketing either...an order for toyota to sell a small car. canadian government hafto test their safety law on them. you can see how domestic cars are getting smaller and imports are getting bigger (neutral).....this is for if any cars out there had an accident, it'll save lives.
they can make lots of car thas compact and high HP....but its jus not safe for the drivers...see how all nissan cars are gettin big?
thas also one of the reason they dun sell Type R RSX in canada.
I often ask the same question of GM. The have some sweet fuckin motors and chassis made by Holden and Opel but they continue to release fwd pieces of shit.
Toyota is doing what they're there to do, sell cars. Though they could do with an inexpensive 'image' car, even if it is in limited numbers.
it's all business.. believe it or not, but lightweight FR cars are NOT what most people want to buy..
so if they don't think they can sell a lot of them, they won't make it..
also, you have to realize that 99% of the people out there don't know shit about cars.. many people think RWD is inherently dangerous and that FF is automatically better
most people would rather have the extra cabin space that FF provides rather than have the handling characteristics of an FR.. that's just how it is, unfortunately
"They dont make anymore cool cars" <- you mean, they dont make anymore cool econoclass cars. Because once we go higher than the price of a corolla or camry, heck cars start to be REAL cool
www.protomotors.com <- check out that car (its a korean car) way neat...
EDIT: FYI manufacteurers make FWD cars, because they're easier and cheaper to build, hence the fact that the company will get more profits. Its all simple economics, people dont want to pay as much for cars, so manufacteurers make them cheaper for the consumer. The normal joe wont care if his car is FWD or RWD aslong as it takes him from point A to point B. In addition FWD is safer for that average joe in extreme conditions such as winter "understeer is always safer than oversteer". Its not as much "people want RWD cars, so lets make them" its "we want money, FWD is more profitable to make, well do those". Just my 2 cents
BESIDES........thats what makes our corolla GT-S' so great!!! they are unique, they are rare, they do not exist anymore!
thats why we're all here!
so instead of complaining about new sporty cars, you should've started a thread like "GOD i love my 86" or somethin like that.........although it'll turn into a postwhore thread.... :-?
