Temp Sensor???

I replaced my cluster gauge on my 01 CE corolla for one with a tach and the new one also includes an LCD display of the outside ambient temperature. For the first few days of having it installed the temperature was displayed properly, however at one point it would always show ' -30 C ' and now it just says ' -E ' which i am assuming means error. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? Thanks

Are you sure you have the actual temp sensor installed? It should be in front of the radiator. I know you were getting a low reading to begin with, but that could of been an error to begin with also.

down the middle infront of the radiator there is a wire runing down to about half way were a small plastic thing is mounted. Is this the temp sensor? And if so, why am i getting a -E reading on the dash?

You need to get the temperature sensor and plug it in.... The cars without the temperature guage have the wiring to the front but no sensor. You will find that you will get false readings when the empty plug gets wet in the rain.
