97 Corolla is shaking pretty bad at highway speeds... why????
I went to a movie lastnight with my friends, and on the way home I noticed that the car was shaking pretty bad on the highway. Why is it doing this? Could it be as simple as needing to get the wheels balanced? I think it needs an alignment job as it is pulling to the left. Does anyone know what is causing this shaking? It only happens at about 90 km/h and up, but once it starts it doesn't stop until I go down to about 60 km/h. Please help me out here!

I had a similar problem in mine....it turned out to be the inner joint on the right side CV axle was done. It stopped after it was changed....but however.....it is back again starting at about 90km/h, only when i accelerate....i wonder if its wear in the differential? not too sure...
My car does the same thing. Feels like my front end is gunna pullsate away from the rest of ym car when I get on the HWY..then at 90+km/h i cna feel it pulsating on my pedals and sometimes the whole floor..it sucks. :'(

Kyle.. did your car do that with the old tires before??? try getting the tires re-balanced as I had that problem a while ago with brand new tires from Walmart, the kid doing the balancing was a noob, so I had to go back and re-balance them and it stopped.
Aww it betetr nto be that..if I got suckere din to buying a tie-rod for nothing.... *shakes fist* I'll do that come friday when I get paid then. Good thinking.

Where do you feel the shaking? Is it in the steering wheel or in the seat? Does it get worse when you get faster or go away at all or stay the same? 60 kmh sounds like too low of a speed for a balance issue but not out of the question. Def. look at the cv joints. Mine did that as well, shook at lower speeds due to a victory burnout that killed my outer vc joints. If it is in the steering wheel, does the wheel shimmy left and right or shake up and down?
...could be any (or all) of the things mentioned - could be defective tire (out of round, belt shifted, flat spot), bent wheel, wheel/tire out of balance, front end out of alignment, something in front end worn out or damaged and needing replacement......something's not right, and it won't go away on it's own. That's a pet peeve of mine - I cannot stand driving a car that "vibrates" or pulls in any way like that - and am amazed at, when driving other people's cars, at what they consider "acceptable" or even "normal" in terms of lack of alignment/balance/whatever. Drives me crazy !!!
my car also was shaking when i went above 65mph, decided to get my tires balanced, but that didn't do anything. I just recently purchased new tires and it stopped shaking
