new 2003 LOUD?

i've had my rolla S for about 3 weeks now, it's getting cold and i know usually it's normal, but i find the engine to be a bit loud on start? is it just me? or has anyone notice the engine to be loud on start?
acceleration tends to be louder then most NEW cars aswell....never owned a VVT-i b4 so feedback would be appreciated.

most engine runs around 2100rpm to 2500rpm at cold start.
its for higher oil pressure so that cold thick oil can reach the cam area and start lubricating. and if the engine runs quicker, the quicker it'll be at Normal Operating Temperature. this is for the emission, so it won't release much HC (hydro carbon) to the atmosphere. HC will come out of the exhaust till the cat gets hot.

its normal especially on new engine.

always wait atleast 30sec (in the cold) b4 putting it into D after you've turned on the engine. its so that oil can start lubricate the cam area.

dun think VVti matters since VVTi is for acceleration. i dunno much about VVTi either

All the 1ZZ's seem to be like that. I've got a 5SFE with over 200k on it and its quieter that a buddy's 1ZZ.

The '03's are a bit loud, especially under hard acceleration. Most articles written about the car have noted this also. It will quiet somewhat as it breaks in. Mine quieted considerably upon switching to synthetic oil.

'03s...

...do seem to be pretty loud. When I first test drove a '03 S auto I noticed this, my '03 S 5-speed seems a little quieter (not much mind you).

yes they are loud, and should go down as you break it in, but still it's pretty loud for a corolla

Yeah, I 5th that. I drive a (see sig) and I noticed when I got it that it was very quiet on idle but when the rpms are up, it had an aggressive kind of growly sound that my old 2.0 Camry did not have. (It is actually louder at WOT) It has quieted a VERY small amount since break-in. It's like music to my ears now. I love the sound of taking 3rd gear to 6,000 RPMs getting on the highway. 2nd to 50mph then 3rd to 80mph. Not great off the line, and weak top-end, but she pulls like a bitch in the mid-range.
