Car warms up at 3000rpm... is that right?

When I start my 1989 SR5 cold, it runs up to 2500 for a while, then up to 3000 when it hits the first line on the temp gauge, and stays there till 1/2 the way to the middle, then drops down to the normal idle of 1200rpm.
Is this right?

You have a 4af right?
Then its carbed, therefore there is a choke when it revs up high like that again push the gas all the way to the floor real quick and it should drop back down in the 1000's. But when its cold il usually leave the choke on for a while to let it warm up quicker.

Right, if I tap the gas it revs down, but I was wondering if what it was doing was normal.

Yes it is the 4af.

mine will climb from 3000 to 4000 the longer it runs. I guess with it warming up the oil makes less friction. with the oil not being so thick
What's been worrying me about my car is when it's REALLY cold the clutch gets really stiff

When it's really cold (like, everyday), my shifter is hard to move lol
