How does my '98 Camry (2.2L) get better mpg than my '95 Prizm (1.6L)?????

I know the Camry has an extra gear & all, but it's always got to carry extra weight & that's a fairly big spread in engine size.

Prizm gets like 23/30

Camry gets like 24/31

Just curious. TIA!

Ya, that's what I was thinkin' too.

I forget now, but there's the ***ideal*** burn ratio that cars are supposedly pushing closer & closer toward..........(I think the new IS Lexuses are pushing the upper limit).........and that is allowing these suckers some seriously high mpg while still putting out a ton of HP per inch or litre of displacement.
