<2006> Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla?

Hi Guys,

I'm in the market of buying a brand new car. Honda just released the 2006 Civic, while Toyota released its version of the Corolla back in 2003. In terms of value for the money and reliability, which car would you suggest? (safety as well).

FYI - Honda has a horrible reputation for tranny problems. I think I read in a recent news report somewhere that they're recalling like 600, 000 cars or something. The Civic 2006 already was recalled due to an accelerator gas pedal problem (not looking good). So far, I don't know of any recalls on the Toyota. However, the current generation of Toyota Corolla has been deemed one of the most unsafest cars on the market

I'm planning to purchase a new car (Civic / Toyota) and use it for about 5 years so I can sell it and purchase a new car again. Someone mentioned to me to buy used, but then the resale value wouldn't be as high.

I've heard that Honda got lazy over the years with their vcivic line (their 2001-2005 Series) had so many problems...people who bought them have told me time and time again never to buy a Civic. I think that Honda's quality is steadily decreasing, as such that they dont make better engines (smaller, compared to Toyotas0>

Also, a big problem in the long run about the Honda Civic is its LED Speedometer. LEDSs have a verrry limited lifespan.. I can't bare to imagine what would happen if it were to fail after the warranty expired.

umm...honda smaller engines than toyota? are you talking about engines in general or are you talking about the egines in the corolla and civic cause i bet the civic has either a 2.0L or a 2.2L and the corolla has a 1.8L

No. But I can tell you this is bullshit. My corolla is the safest car I have ever driven or been in (compared to a passat, dakota, neon, civic)

If you can't make up your mind between Civic and Corolla then go for Matrix, which is way more trendier than both the cars you are looking for.
Good Luck.

All time best selling car in the world. There are more Corolla in the world than any other car with one name plate. It outnumbers the VW Bug even.

Personally I would go with Corolla. I like the design better than Civics. I saw one on the street the other day and all I could think was that it looked like a Saturn for some reason. From the side, the vehicle looked like minivan because the angle of the hood and the windshield are almost the same, not to mention the short looking hood. This is not a bad thing since you can have more interior room in the same size package by reducing the size of the engine compartment. In fact, the Civic is shorter than Corolla, but has longer wheelbase. But I couldn't help but think it looks like a minivan for some reason.

Hondas are great cars, My uncle and I abused our Gen 3 Preludes and they refused to die. My aunt drives the heck out of her 92 Honda Accord and it's still going strong. My dad's 90 Corolla is still going strong too.

Both cars have 1.8L engine and hte HOnda puts out 10 more HP but also weighs 100lbs or so more than Corolla.

yea no kidding XRS all the way!.. but aboiut the honda having the 10hp advantage.. 100lbs wouldnt change anything.. in all honestly probably around a .1 of a second.. probably less.. 400 lbs only sets you back about a half.. maybe.. but even then.. speed doesnt seem to be a factor to him anyways.

Personally i like both of these cars.. civics have always seemed pretty cool to me.. not to mention corolla's (i own one).. but idk, if you feel that honda has been slacking then the decision is easy, just geta rolla.. XRS would be sweet! dont know how you could go wrong with that machine.. hell just get a celi GT-S.. those are alot of fun too

oo btw.. ( scion TC )

used to own a 93' 2 dr civic, that thing was bulletproof! i beat the $HIT out of that car with the help of my friends and a friendly tractor trailer driver who decided to run into me lol. that car had 215,000 miles on it when i decided to let it go. i cant say anything negative about honda, but i do love my corolla too. my advice, test drive both cars, and decide based on which one you look better in!! good luck man
