Does anyone know where I could find a running 4age motor to drop into my 85? The car now has 307 000km and is basically running on 2 cylinders (so the mechanic tells me) - no compression in #1 and #4. It drinks oil like a mad mofo too!
I'd like to keep the car since the body is pretty good. It does have the usual rust but not as bad as some of the others that I've seen.
If I can't find anything in the next week or so, I'm pretty sure that it will be put up for sale. This is my daily driver so I need something to get to work and back.
I'm out in Niagara Falls too so I can't really afford to take time off of work to bomb around some of these engine places on the far side of Toronto. Any help you GTA guys can provide would be great!
you sure its a silvertop and installation for 2100?
the motor and all the other stuff is expensive enough
and the installation on a regular 4age is bad enough
let alone a silvertop
and converting everything for it to work.
well its just logical that a 20V would be more expensive then the GZE, because they're newer engines, the GZE was made in the early 90's and the 20V at the latter part.
everything is ready to go but two wires to hook up, then fire her up, can't wait, oh ya, I will be finishing that monday as I am off all that day, derek from list is coming down, he helped me with most of the hook up two weeks ago, so feel free to come down shane and you to Lafora, sorry been real busy last two weeks to get back to you Lafora.

OUCH, but then again maybe its the headgasket OR the piston rings. Changing those would be a tad bit cheaper than a new (used) engine swap, which might give you the same problems.
I'm waiting to hear back from the mechanic on what a re/re engine would cost. I don't have the space/tools/experience to do this on my own and really need something to get to work with every day. I can't afford to have my car out of commission for a week or whatever.
I was thinking that it is either the rings or valves/seals. I don't have an coolant loss, no sweet smell from the exhaust but my oil consumption was 5 litres last week and I only drove about 200 km! :o Power is really sluggish from a start but OK once you're rolling. I have to avoid big hills too since there is virtually no power to even do 100kph and go up the escarpment.
I may end up selling the old girl and finding something else to get me through the winter. Spending $$$ is hard enough this time of year.
