High-Beams won't turn off

I noticed tonight that many drivers were "flashing" my car as I drove past on a two-lane highway. Turns out my high-beams are stuck on, even when the dashboard indicator tells me they are not. I haven't heard of this happening before, but is it a problem with Corollas? I just bought the car a week ago so I start to freak out with every little quirk I find. I know they're great autos, though. I'm just not sure what to think about this headlight problem. Do any of you have ideas on how to fix it?

What year is your car?

Do you ahve a multimeter? You can test if you need to switch the wires around on the socket.

I'm wondering if your bulbs are wired properly.

It's a 98 Corolla.

How would I test it with a multimeter? I have just a standard multimeter that tests for continuity, voltage, etc.

Just thought of something else: What happens when you pull or push the light stalk to turn the high beams on and off. Does it get brighter or dimmer? Easier to test if the bulbs are wired improperly than with a multimeter.

Also make sure your lights are aimed properly. When you were driving, did you have a lot of junk in the trunk making the front of the vehicle point upwards?
