Cleaned out PCV valve and now it smokes

I took the PCV out yesterday and cleaned it out with brake cleaner since i didnt have any carb cleaner. As soon as i cranked it i noticed alot of smoke coming from under the hood.I drove it around for a while and its still doing it.Did the brake cleaner do damage to it somehow or is this a coincidence? The PCV wasnt stuck on the inside and once i sprayed it out the insides were much more loose which i thought was good.Anyway i will probably get another today but just wondering if anyone had any experience with this. This is on a 95 with the 1.8.

I suggest getting the Toyota OEM, not an afternarket brand.

Aftermarket one will work also if you're not near a Toyota dealer.

Positive Crankcase Ventilation vlave

It routes crank case blowby gasses back to the intake to be burned.

I don't think the toyota one or the one from an auto store will be that much different. It's just a pcv valve. The price will be different. Just like the airfilter for my car. yay for the 4af.. $20 air filter at toyota. Same one just doesn't say denso on it was $12 at canadian tire

^ I am currently using a Denso aftermarket air filter. It looks really freaking weird compared to any other air filter that I've seen. It looks nothing like the OEM Denso or aftermarket Purolator or Wix filters that I've used.

It's drop in panel air filter just like regular air filter, just that the material looks really freaking wierd.

It looks like it's stuffed with cotton or gauze or something like that. The material is kinda puffy. Normal paper filters had many pleats and the material is more or less flat but this one, the material is so thick it cannot fit as many pleats.

I got it from sparkplugs.com and it looks nothing like the photo for that filter on that site aside from that it's a rectangular panel filter.

I'll get some photos in the morning.

they probably don't make that for the 4af engines. the oil changers didn't have the filter for it either because it;s only good for carb'd toyota's not sure if it's any good for maybe the ae86 sr5 or maybe the carb'd pick up

I don't know for sure about the Toyota PCV valves but I KNOW on a Mitsubishi 3.0 liter engine that the OEM PCV valve works much better than the Purolator PCV valve. I tried 2 different Purolator PCV valves and they both stuck after only a few hundred miles. The OEM has been fine for several thousand miles now.

When the PCV valve sticks the engine uses oil. I took the Purolator valve apart and it looked cheaply made to me.
