Hmmm...backfire?

search function wasn't enough

what usually happens when a car backfires? why does it backfire? and if its running rich or lean, why is it running rich or lean? (n/a engine)

backfiring can occur in efi engines?? or not? and what is that POP noise? is that the exhaust? because it sounds like its coming from there

and how to fix? thank you

Bakcfiring is from your car running to rich I believe. RIch means you've got fuel not burning during the combustion process so it's in your exhasut piping. Once the hot Piping ignites the gas it explodes (hence the pop) na dyou get the bit of fire out the tail pipe. That's my theory anyways.

it's when the unburnt fuel from your engine gets into your cat converter and the heat causes it to ignite. I read up on it when I was trying to figure out what a backfiring system did.

It can also happen if your timing is way retarded (spark plugs firing too late)
