I just bought AE86 ---
I'm regretting it already because I paid $3500 and after I took it home, I noticed
a lot of rust spots I have not noticed before.
How can I fix these rust spots before they ruin the car? Some are all right, while others, especially one by the rear wheel has eaten right through the metal.
Uggghhh. I don't want to spend more than $500 fixing and painting this thing.
Any ideas???

Yes, pictures would help. Where are you from? Toronto?
$3500 is quite alot to pay for. Actually, I paid just as much for mine. You don't want to spend too much on bodywork? DON'T!
Make sure you have enough saved for anything else that may go wrong with the car.
I've spent over $2000 (and will need to spend another $1000 to get the car back on the road this fall) in less than half a year. shiet that's alot! hahaha
Good luck. Be glad that the body is all you need to fix for the time being.
Kevin
i disagree. Body work is the end all be all of the car...its like cancer, if you don't stop it it will spread. You get what you pay for...esspecially with body work. So if you're planning on keeping the 86 for a fair amount of time, or plan to race it hard, or restore it properly, i say invest in a good body shop to fix the rust and paint it well. If done incorrectly or poorly, you could find yourself faced with the same problem a year or two later.
I was quoted about $1200 to fix the rust on my car, and that's just for cutting out, and re welding the wheel arches. But I figure that if I want this done right, I'd need about $2000 budgeted out in order to cover any other things that might be discovered while the car's in there. Sad, but true.

You have your point. Many factors will play into this. Whether this is your first car, or whether you have another winter beater. Whether you are going to drive this car in winter. How much money you've saved up. Whether you are working or not. Just a tonne of things to consider.
I was actually assuming this is your only car and you're a student who still doesnt' have a full time job that PAYS!
In that case, you might just wish your car was runnning, as in my case.
Varietta, stop depressing everyone with your stories about how mean your car has been to you. You've just had some pretty bad luck. I don't think a lot of guys around here have experienced such luck with their AE's. Maybe you just don't know how to drive?? I can teach you how to drive at my TRD-HKS-JDM-JSPEC-ZENKI-KOUKI-HACHI School of Performance Driving.
Shade, I just dropped my car off at my uncle's bodyshop in Hamilton. I got quoted $2000, just like everyone else to get the rust taken care of from Maaco and another bodyshop. My uncle is doing it for me for under $1200. I'm sure he would give you a great deal too. If you want, you can come up with me next weekend to pick up my car and he can give you a quote on yours. It's only a 45 minute drive.
