So after six searched through the archive, I still can't clear this up. There's no tag on my firewall (Japan-made car, same as my Camry), and the sticker on the door is long gone...so the million dollar question is: what is the stock code for the Toyota red on the AE92 GT-Ss? I could safety the car with one black fender for the time being, but even I have too much pride for that!
Anyone have the code? I really hate talkin' to the dealership here!

I'll check for you on that when I get the chance.. depends on which red though. I believe there's a couple of reds used by Toyota, GTS's used Torrid Red.
Thanks guys...Ren, if you find it please let me know. For the MR2s I know they used 3J6, and I thiiink the GTSs were 3E6 but obviously I'd like to be sure before shelling out the dough for a few spray bombs.

If There Is A Paint Circuit In Thunderbay Go To Them And Get Them To Scan The Paint On Your Car... That Will Tell Them The Code.... Besides Its A Red From The 80's.... Toyota Like Everyone Else Didnt Use To Many Different Colours. There Is No Clear Coat On Your Car Cause Flat Colours Back Then And Some Today Dont Use Clear Coat. The Colour Name Is Torrant Red And The Mr2 And Corolla Would Be The Same Colour... Might Have Different Colour Codes Just Cause Of Prices To Charge At Dealer When New And If Crashed... Mr2 Would Have Been More Xpensive Just Cause It's Mr2... However The Colour Is The Same.

Awesome, thanks guys. For now I'll use 3E5 from those Crappy Tire near-match spray cans, because I'm not looking for perfection...just a safety cert.
In the summer I'll worry about a perfect match, after I've welded new rocker panels on (omigod those side skirts collect a lot of snow and slush).
Cheers.

I'm getting a few spots on my car fixed, but I wonder what type of red they should use on mine, considering it sat out in the sun for 18 years and is now a gross reddish-orange.
I'd go to another mechanic if this one won't let you certify because of a black fender.. how the fuk does a black fender influence the safety of the car??? he's just trying to make money off you or trying to recommend you to one of his buddies for paint.

The problem isn't that he won't safety it with a black fender, it's that the car has to look reasonably good for me to get an inexpensive safety. He's willing to let some things go as long as the car doesn't "look" like a beater. I'd rather spend $20 on spray bombs than have him require that I re-weld the frame rails under the trunk (which are badly rotted), for example.
As far as the paint code, 3E5 "Super Red II" is a very close match, despite the whole issue of 18 years' worth of sun. All in all, this car's finish has held-up well. No dulling of the finish on the roof, trunk, or hood...
