Need Help Changing Inner Tie Rod On 92 Corolla
I went to Pepboys to get an alignment recently and they told me I had to replace inner and outer tie rods/ends as well as ball joints. They charge way too much for labor so I opted to change these out myself. Ball joints, sinch! Outer rod ends, sinch! Inner rods, hmmm! Somehow I managed to remove and replace the passenger side tie rod since there was enough room along side the engine to use a wrench and pliers once the splash shields were removed. I can't get good access to the driver's side tie rod end to unscrew it! All they have to be is broke loose and they practically unscrew by hand since they seem to have loose tolerance in the threads. Anybody succeeded in removing the driver side inner rod without having to remove the rack or move the engine? I'm thinking about heating it up with a torch but I have to be careful since there are fuel lines nearby. 01/11/06 I've given up on trying to remove the driver side inner. Don't want to damage my rack and pinion by wrencing on the tie rod without getting a back-up wrench on the rack side. I'm hoping that with the new ball joint and outer tie rod end that the car can successfully be aligned!
