Question Paint on a 06...?

Hi all, I'm new here and also a new owner of a Met Blk Corolla-S. Nice little car but I must ask does anyone else notice the paint seems very thin on these cars? super nice finish deep wet look but the smallest thing will cause a chip!

Let me guess, US built? If so it's because of regulations we have in the US. Domestics have had the same problem for years, well the US built ones that is. Here in the US we are forced to use water based paints for automotive finishes. In other places in the world they can spray with paints that are more durable, are cheaper and polute a little bit more.

Never heard that before...You mean their spraying latex type paints on the cars ...What about all of the can spray paints are they water based also ......What about the hard Acrylic enamels they spray on appliances you never see them chip, are they made of water based paints If they aren't why just car paint, the paint can't pollute once its dry...Got any info on this because my Corolla chips easy and it was made in Canada not the US ....Radd Guy...

Some manufactures (maybe)...but I don't know of any body shops in my area using water base paints. Mostly all base coat clear coat Urethane.
Maco might use that crap?

Mainly the reason they use water based paints and apparently powder based finishes is to conform to enviromental regulations that limit the ammount of emisions and particulates that go into the air. That is why in many parts if not all of the country Laquer automotive finishes cannot be done. Especially in CA. In a nutshell they use water based paints because they are nearly emisions free while tradtional paints that are solvent based puke about as much garbage into the atmosphere as a 64 Dodge that is running on 5 cylinders. AQMD requires companies in certain areas to purchase "Blocks" of air time. Unauthorized spraying or overspraying your time will result in steep fines for these companies.
