AE92 ABV (Air Bypass Valve) Mod?!

Hi all,

I did a little search, but i couldnt come up with much. Hopefully some of you guys can come up with answers to most of the questions below:
  • Just wanted to know what exactly is required to do the ABV mod? (i believe its a matter of just directing ABV into the intake manifold?!)
  • Are their any gains from doing this mod?
  • Any problems occuring from doing this mod?
I have a 3rd Gen (late 1989) AE92 Toyota Levin, with just an aftermarket (ARC) top mount intercooler and a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust.

Any info will be much appreciated.

Cheers!

that i know of (i personally havne't done it on mine, as i don't need to... i have a stock sized pulley) all you need to do is remove it or cap it off.... the ABV is simply like a turbo's wastegate..... when pressure reaches a certain point then it releases it

Are you meant to do the mod after you have increased you PSI levels by buying a bigger S/C pulley kit?

Would you need to do it with the stock sized pulley?

A quick description is near the bottom of the page.

I have been told that doing this mod does nothing unless you have a larger pulley.

I'll be doing some dyno runs this spring and summer after installing stock JDM 4agze and we'll find out for sure. The bypass mod is about 3rd on my list of mods a larger pulley is 4th.
