O-ring required??

'91 Rolla 4AFE. That thing I removed by my distributor off the head must be the thermostat. It seems to be sealed to the head with 2 very skinny O-rings in grooves. Are these required, or can I just give it some Red RTV and be done with it??

That thermostat uses an o'ring with a groove on the inside for the outer part of the thermostat to seat in. Get a new o'ring & no sealant is required.
