AE92 4ag Rebuild or Swap?

Hey I blew the headgasket. Water in the engine oil.. right?

I have some light camshafts I wanna install for the new engine...

You think I should rebuild the engine with the camshafts.

or have a shop swap out the engine for another engine and have them install the camshafts.

or just do certain things on the rebuild... I know usually a valve job comes with headgasket repair so I maybe I should just do certain things instead of rebuilding the entire engine...
what would you do in this case?

which of the 3 would yall opt for... I'm pressed for time and I would LIKE to save money if I could, but I do want a good job as well.

Rebuild it... a "new" engine can also be junk.

If your looking to upgrade the motor ie. cams, then i would suggest rebuilding your motor, If its just a blown head gasket (not overheated badly) it should be reasonably easy to fix.

Do you know why it happened. A blown HG is not a common fault for a 4age, would pay to figure out why it happened so it won't do it again.

AE92 ...

not sure why it happened.
i only have 140000 miles. I use to drive it like a madman but that was back in the days now i just drive like a civilian. I would think it's the waterpump or thermostat... what else is have I missed?

I found a guy to rebuild it, 90% sure this is gonna happen... but they're gonna get a new block and have the head taken to the machine shop, where it might or might not be too bad. Don't know if that's necessary either... about the block. I figure headwork would be fine but he's still quoting cheaper than some of the other guys.

I will mention about the cause of why it happened to him though... I definetly don't want it to happen again.

the first link I could buy for 2200 or I could finish my project with the blown headgasket on the bottom link.

I hope things will be OK

depends on what you want. If you are looking to save money finding another 4age isn't hard but doesn't mean it's gonna run great. if you have a little more money to spend you could buy a brand new 4age, if you still can not sure with toyota. Or rebuild yours to like new condition

Thats a waste of money and time imho, just do that one engine. Swapping junk to replace junk isnt gonna help much and lets face it, 4A-GE's are starting to be old, unless we're talking silver or blacktop, and chances are they're gonna need a rebuild too.

well.... 4age's can be obtained for cheaply, and doing a straight swap would take maybe 1/2 a days of work..... that would make the car driveable, and give him something to start fresh with and be able to take his time with.

It depends what you want to do with the car, so what are your plans for it, racing or is it like a daily driver?

Thumbs up ...

I appreciate all your replies, thank you very much...

But I think my problem is pretty much over now, I'm going to do a rebuild basically and having all these performance parts put it while they're at it. About 1700 dollars, discluding the cost of the ACT pressure plate and Toyota Clutch.

I actually found a Puerto Rican and Pinoy that has a collection of corollas and knows all about these cars... I think I'll get excellent results, and pay nearly a G less than the average plumber buttcrack showing A-hole that was questioning of why I would want to rebuild an old car.

They're going to be taking pictures to keep a log of the engine rebuild for me. I'll see about posting them for y'all in about a week for all the views given to me...

Thanks!
