squeak!!? or what could it be?

a quick squeak sound when the car is in neutral and rev fast from 1k rpm to around 5k rpm and almost to redline, kinda sounds like the belts, and only happens when its cold, but when warm, it doesn't squeak. Again, i put the car in neutral when its not fully warmed and do a quick rev all the way to 5000-ish rpm and a quick squeak come out, but doesn't happen if i rev it slowly, does the belts move faster when you rev the engine in neutral? thanks

try the tentioning on the v-belt. the belt moves i think according to the crankshaft. so if you rev higher, the belt moves faster.

a v-belt is a thin belt that tapers in towards the bottom of the belt in the shape of a v. Of course you don't have to be moving. From the moment you start the engine all the belts are moving. Running the alternator, PS and such. Also when you go to tighten in check it for cracks and wear marks, you might need to replace it

You're killing your car revving to redline on a cold engine, you know that?

What you can fix with new belts or tensioner adjustments might not be enough if the innards are messed up..

hey guys, thanks for the replies but now it squeaks when its warmed up as well, i'll try to look for the v-belt tomorrow morning and see whats up. The car's belts squeak when idle, but i think thats normal for my 160,000 miles car, but when rev it quickly there is a short squeak, about 1 second sqeak right when i rev it FAST in neutral

Sounds like worn or loose belt.
