Serious Help Needed brake drum Stuck

Guys....i was trying to replace my gf 2000 corolla rear brake shoe.
I was unable to take off brake drum, i already release my hand-brake.
I try it with a rubber hammer BUT with no luck. It look to me that the brake drum is sticking against the shoe ( both trailing shoe and leading shoe ).
How can take it off????

no Problem man, theres couple of things you can do, you can bang it really hard with metal hammer, or, you gram 2 metric 12mm screws and put them in a hole in the drum. start screwing them in till it comes loose. what basically happend is, since it has't been serviced in a while, the drum rusted on to the hub itself. and other thing is, the drum had uneven wear, so the shoe sorta nudged itself into the drum, but yea itshould come out easily since they are not like GM drum system.

Hi...i have taking some pics of my corolla drum brake.
I try again to hit it hard but with no luck again, regarding to the 12mm screw i still don't understand how you going to pull the drum out when it's sticking against my drum shoe, here is pics.

I've found that drums stick because the face of the drum rusts against the face of the hub. Even if it is the shoes sticking, as you turn the bolds in, they push the drum away from the hub. You turn the bolts awhile and you begin to hear several pings and pops as the drum moves. It doesn't break free all at once.

Are there adjustment screws on the back of the drums (I know older vehicles have them....). If so, back those off as far as they'll go.

If not, keep beating/pulling on it

.On the 89-93 Corolla, you need 8 mm bolts not 12 mm bolts. Does the '94 have 12 mm bolts? Those would be huge. Get bolts with the correct thread pitch. I don't remember for sure what it is - a guess would be 1.25.

On the backing plate near the top is a rubber plug. Remove rubber plug and you will find a star wheel that by using a flat screwdriver you can adjust brake shoes. To loosen brake shoes you have to hold one screwdriver to push in on lever that rests against star wheel and use another on the star wheel to loosen shoes. You could also try spraying some brake cleaner into opening by top of drum to help loosen it.

94_v6_camry,

90 GP is right about the access to the star wheel, but you will have to figure out which way to turn it and it is a pain in the neck to turn with a screwdriver.

The "tools" are just two bolts. Get two "8 mm X 1.25" bolts about 2 inches long and screw them into the two holes on the front of the drum. Turn them with a wrench to push the drum away from the hub.

While it is part way on, try (with the emergency brake released) to turn the drum and see if the wheel rotates. If the shoes are stopping it, I'd say the shoes are not properly adjusted or installed. When the drum is off the outline of the shoes should lie on a circle. It is easy to misadjust them so they don't form that pattern. Try to adjust their position merely by pushing on them gently and get the pads to lie on the circumference of the same circle.

I just looked at the your picture, with the drum off and I don't see anything obvious that is wrong. If reposition ing the pads by showing them into place doesn't work, adjust the star wheel. Do you see the star wheel adjustment? Use one had to relase the little latch that keeps it from turning and use a screwdriver to turn it so the pads come closer together.
