Canada a weird thing ...

here is a weird scenario for all of you to chew on..i have a 1986 nova/rolla with a 4a motor 5 speed ... when it rains the car misses violently . especially at highway speeds . bout 100km n up .. ive sealed the cap n sprayed the wires with silicone and also have spark plug boot covers.. new fuel filter . n new fuel pump .. have checked all of the wire connections. and they r good n tight ...so what gives ???

maybe sucking in water down the carb? another thing is the ignition coil they delaminate a bit and get water in them. but if memory serves me the coil is in the distributor but id still consider that.

I had the same car great little car they are bulletproof!

Yeah.. I've had the same problems before with my old 86 Nova and the 86 and 87 Civics I had.. they were all carbed. Water gets in the system and that's it.

OK my car is fuel injected, and it does a similar thing. When it has been damp or raining outside, I will be going down the road and give it about half throttle. It starts "missing"
WTF? Now the other day I went and bought a distributor cap and wire kit for 100 bucks
Do you think that should solve the problem, or was it a big waste?

You probably only needed to tighten up the cap, I had that problem before where my car would miss when I stepped on it, only when it rained. Turned out one of the cap bolts had come right out, and moisture would get into the cap and cause a misfire.

Might be a crack in the cap.
I seriously doubt its water in the carb.
