ok i allways see people posting stuff about toyota engines and reffering to their engine codes.
I have no clue to what engines/codes mean or which are/were available in different toyota models.
Does anybody know of a site that has info. on this kind of stuff?

toysport has engine codes for a lot of toyotas.

basically, the engine code is the name of that particular engine. its essential to knowing your car. cars oftne come with different engines for one model, so knowing your engine code will help you in selecting the right part.

club4ag.com has a breakdown of what the alpha-numerical codes mean for toyotas.

here are some common engine codes often found in import vernacular:

Hondas:
b16a, b16b, b18b, b18c, b18c5, b20b, zc, h22a, h23a

Toyota:
4age, 4agze, 4agleu, 2jzgte, 1jzgte, 3sge, 3sgte, 7mgte, 5mge, 5mgte

Nissan: ka24de, sr20de, sr20det, ca18det, rb25det, rb26dett, vg30dett

Others include DSM 4g63, Subaru's 22b, mazada's rotaries of 12b, 13b and 20b
