Keeping Engine Bay clean

I have a 2000 Prizm, and I have tried a few times to clean up the engine bay of my car, but the first time you drive on wet roads everything is covered in crud again. Is there any way to slow this down? I know I have cleaned up several other types of cars engine bays, and yeah, you always get crud, but not like in this car, this is absurd. It covers the inside of the hood, the firewall, the top of the engine, everything. Does anyone know of anything you can do to fix this short of clean the engine daily? It'd be awesome if someone could have made a plastic sheild to mount under the car, similar to a skidplate, to deflect all the road junk. I think it also comes in the grill pretty bad too.

They did come with those plastic plates.. maybe your car is missing it and that's why it keeps getting dirty.

Could someone put a pic up of the plate that should be there so I can take a look. I'd love to stop the mess on the engine

not sure about on your car, but on mine it goes from the bumper to the oil pan, it's pretty big. I thought it was mostly for air flow to the rad on our cars since the air for it comes in the bottom of the bumper rather than the grill

Isn't your radiator behind your grill .......Its on both sides of the oil pan and usually connects to the bumper also...On my 03S its an extension of the wheel surrounds, on some cars their connected together mines one big sheet that goes from the wheel well and connects together behind the radiator and oil pan, sometimes if work was done that had to be accessed from under your car they might have been too lazy to snap all the plastic rivets/retainers back on and its left hanging open...Crawl under and check it out it should be black plastic .... ....I think that your tires would be throwing up crap more rather then just the stuff passing under your car ...Check to see if you have a hole or a loose opening in your wheel surround...Good Luck....Radd Guy...
