AE92 So whaddya think, am I el loco?

So my favorite wrecker got a mint-ish 90 GT-S in last week. Engine was already spoken for, but the body is perfect (I mean, no rust around the wheel wells, spotless rockers, etc). In a fit of sleep exhaustion-fueled enthusiasm, I paid $200 for the P/S rear quarter and rocker panel as a one-piece deal.

I like welding and all, but what've I gotten myself into?!?!?! Anyone think it's worth the trouble? (Background: I bought my GT-S for $300, as a winter-beater. I love it so much I wanna make it perfect...but it has no rocker panels left, I've already replaced the fenders, and the rear quarters need replacing).

Feedback time: on a scale from 1 to 10, how ape-shit crazy am I?

I wouldn't consider an 11+ a joke coming from someone who basically reconstructed his whole back driver side.

Well, see there's this problem with wreckers being unwilling to sell whole cars. Once they've processed the registration as "wrecked" it's almost impossible to get them to sell it. They could do it, but unfortunately the vast majority won't. Believe me, if that were an option I would take it. In a heartbeat.

Well I'm fixing up the body on my AE92 right now and I can tell you its a prety big job. Mine was in rough shape because the previous owner had some body shop weld new skins overtop of the rust, instead of cutting out the old steel.

As far as 200 being too much, I wouldn't say that. If they are in good shape having good metal can save you days of work. I just ordered skins for the rear wheel arches and they cost 70 for each side. I was hoping they would be large enough to cover all my rust, but the new skins only extend to just over the wheel arch seam.

Also I've bought some written off cars at auction. Some are stated as parts only, So it doesn't matter what you do to them, you can never insure them again.

Good luck with the body work.

^^Thanks...I need to find some auctions myself, there just aren't enough of these cars left. Maybe if Northwestern Ontario separates and joins Manitoba (Lol) I'll have access to some quality auctions!
