Holy geez i know nothing.

since i used to drive a honda, the last decade or so i have been involved highly with those high revving vtec engines.

now, since my last honda has since been demolished, i looked into something that was affordable..thus a purchase of a grey AE92 sedan.

not a bad car i must say.....

so with that been said, i know nothing about toyota's aside from i should have waited out and bought an 86 corolla instead.

my car..being a 88 sedan has a carb'd engine....the engine code is a mystery to me.

so the few things i would like to know in regards to this is simple yet, trying to find them on this site is a challenge.

what is the engine code for that carb'd engine i have?

i have been looking at other corollas and i have been mistaken all this time as to what possibilities could be had with this four door.

im liking what i see....

regards.

PnP

You have the 4af engine, I believe. If you want something a little quicker, a corolla with the 4ag would definitely fit the bill. I haven't had any major/expensive problems with my car yet, except that I will need a new exhaust soon. Welcome to the board!

yup yup you have the 4AF, the later sedans have 4AFE (EFI)

the "F" head means high efficiency, "G" head means sport/performance

this applies to many many toyota engine codes (3sFe, 3sGe, 1jzfe, 1jzge, etc etc)

anyhoo welcome, flashmn there is the most experienced owner of your car on this board, from the top of my head

btw did you know the 2 door coupe, AE92 SR5 shares the same engine as your sedan? its the GT-S that has the 4age

good luck

Nothing wrong with the performance of a 4A-F if you know what youre doing. I know of one 4A-F that was dynoed with 150hp with Carbs, Cams, exhaust and ofcourse intake (but that has to be done with the carbs). Compression is stock 9.5:1 not bad for an econo engine
