Hi, has anyone ever removed their 4A-FE engine from their AE92 with out an engine lift? or does anyone know a trick to it? I dont have a lift so I was wondering if I can still remove it from the bottom and then lift the car front end up and away from the engine, then maybe do it in reverse to install. I wanna know because I heard someone did something like that so maybe some one can give me some pointers on how to drop/remove the engine from the bottom without an engine lift. thanks.

Yea thats the way I always do it, I've always it easier to drop out the whole subframe, just 3 bolts on the top of each strut, 2 engine mounts and 10-15 big bolts underneath.
Its a peice of cake really, all you need is a couple of mates to lift the car up and move it back afterward.
the engine itself weighs around 200lbs or so... maybe 300lbs max. it's fairly light. the tranny is around 70lbs - i've been able to haul it around the garage with a broken collar bone (ie, with one arm).

this is probly useless but i lifted mine out when i went to change the timing belt and the clutch... yep they went at the same time.. weird? anyways here's a pic of me underneath it.. haha
there are like 5 HIDDEN bolts on the back of the tranny.. it pissed me off
the only ones that are difficult to find are the 2 bolts on the lower tranny mount... there is a plastic cover from the underside so the bolts aren't exposed & you can't see the mount from the top

Damn I wish someone had told me that!! Anyway if you do the engine-hoist thing, the tranny should come with it. On automatics, it has to actually, no room to separate them. I found all this stuff out recently during a string of obscenities...
The subframe thing from the bottom sounds nice actually. Another trick I learned the hard way and on this board: don't unwire the motor, instead disconnect the harness at the ECU (under dash somewhere) and poke the connecter thru the firewall to the motor and un-wire it later after separation. Wish I had done it this way...
