Loss of power

The silvertop in my AE92 idles well but when driving: it skips and spits. Feels almost like a cracked distro cap. I checked and it doesnt appear to be damaged. If its out of gear I can hammer the gas pedal and its fine. But as soon as I put it in gear and let it out it coughs and spits.

yeah I agree

I agree but it only does it under a load. I can start to speed up but then I lose power and the rpm's jump all around trying to maintain a steady flow. It feels like its being shut off and then restarted then shut off etc...... Makes me wonder if it has a bad distro cap or timing might be off.

Have you check the leads, especcially the coil to distributor one, the factory ones are prone to failure.

Is the ECU giving any codes??

I would take a wild guess by saying check the wiring harness to make sure all the wires are connected properly.
