Locks

Hey. I just had my 94 Corolla in the shop for warranty repairs. I bought the car and recieved only two valet keys. During the warranty period, the passenger side door lock broke. They fixed the locks by replacing the trunk and passenger door with two different locks. I now have one key for the driver's door and ignition, another for the passenger door, and a third for the trunk. I had a Cressida last summer (crashed it ), and to replace locks/keys, one would have to take apart the passenger door and look for a code on the lock. That person could then go to a Toyota Dealership and have extra keys made, both regular and valet. That was a 1986 Cressida... I would assume they didn't change that practice later in 1994. Where is the code so I can have this shop do it right? I don't want to pay money for this since it's under warranty. Thanks for any info!

Wow 12 years that's a great warranty Welcome to the forum ...Why wouldn't the shop know where the code is or know where to find out?...I would just call the Toyota dealers parts dept or a good locksmith and ask them I'm sure they could point you in the right direction ...Good Luck...Radd Guy..

Lock cylinder code was on the passenger door cyl. Im a locksmith and know this by the way. This is the only place there was the factory code, there might also be one on some ignitions, but you have to pukll it out to check(big pain). The reason you have a new key for weverything can be 1 or a couple things. One thing is, there is one keyway that toyota stoped making, so older keyts may not fit in the new key way, or, they were to cheep and lazy to get a locksmith out to rekey your new lock cyls to the old keys. I do this all the time for toyota's and imports.
