2004 type S intake question -help!

a friend has a 2004 corolla type s. he got a short ram intake on ebay (some no name brand apparently), and were attempting to install it. we noticed that there is some sort of vaccuum hose connected to the front of the stock airbox, and the intake we have has no fitment for this hose. the intake came with no instructions, weve been trying to track down information...but so far to no avail. i cant imagine this hose is just to be left disconnected sucking unfiltered air

what i need to know is...for those that have installed short ram intakes, did the intake you got have a fitment for the vaccuum hose? and two...can anybody who purchased a short ram that came with instructions post up the section where it talks about what to do with this hose?

thanks for any help anyone can give us

no-name brand intakes bought off of ebay are not made for a specific car. They are made for a specific diameter inlet, that is it. This is why people buy name brand intakes. Why didn't he just go to autozone and make one with their cheapo "kits" like all the other cheap hacks?

Anyways, there are a few hoses on the new Corollas. one leads to the smogpump. You know that hole behind the battery leading down by the wheelwell somewhere, that used to be connected to the snorkel running to the intake? That is the smog pump and I bet that right now it is sucking in unfilter air. This will cause a CEL. The Injen intake has a nipple for this hose, which needs to be attached because the ECU thinks that air is supposed to be removed from the intake supply to feed the smog pump. There is another hose coming off of the airbox, I forgot where it goes to, but it is important. Again the Injen intake has a nipple for this hose.

AEM, Injen, and K&N are the holy trinity of intakes. Stick with them and you should be fine. Just buy name brand and save yourself from problems guys.......

Just drill a hole and weld a nipple in place to attach ALL the hoses/sensors that were in the airbox. If you can't do it your self any engineering shop will be able to.

i was afraid of that. sounds like it makes more sense just to send the POS back and get an AEM or Injen haha thanks for the heads up.

moral of the story - dont buy cheap ass no name ebay parts

Engineers design things, machinists make them. A machinist shop is where I'd go.....

So an engineer is not allowed to make anything?

Are you always this pedantic?
