Oil leak from distributor - Corolla 88, 4AF

I own a Corolla 1988 model, 4AF, DOHC and has 72K miles on it. I noticed that the oil has been leaking from the distributor. I changed the external O ring but did not solve the problem. Looking more closely I noticed the leak was coming from inside the distributor. Is there an inner shaft seal, or O ring that could be replaced to solve this problem? I called several auto parts stores but don't sell these parts and suggested I replace the entire distributor with a rebuilt one which is quite expensive.

Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,
adljosue

There's an o-ring you need to change in the distributor shaft. I had the same problem sometime back and the guys here told me about it. It's pretty simple and it's just a couple of bucks. You can go to the Autozone website and there's a section on the left on Repair Info. Just choose your car model, year, etc and then go to the Engine Electrical section. From there, choose the Distributor section. It shows you how to open the distributor and stuff, with pictures too.

Btw, I have a 4AF too, in my '90 AE92. Good luck!

Many thanks for the advise and the website. I'll see what I can do over the weekend to fix the problem and let you know about the outcome.

Cheers
