Are you suppose to be able to drive with your ebrake up because I can in my car (96 corolla) and in my moms car (98 camry), but in my friends 97 galant, when his ebrake is up and he tries to drive, his car barely moves and when he drops the ebrake, he peels out.
Dude, driving with your E-brake up is not a very bright idea, anyway you look at it. In a FWD car, it brakes the rear wheels. Your car will either rev up, or drag the rear tires down the road. If you do this, you won't be able to slow down in an emergency. Hence the name "Emergency Brake"
Sounds like your e-brakes (both cars) are shot. Either they were shot to begin with and you just didn't notice, or you broke some cables driving like that. I'm cringing at the thought...

yeah, when you've peeled out enough, and the gears just present themselves to you at a stop light. Toyota makes a strong transmission, but even they have their limits. It's just too much stress for the car to take on a regular basis.
anyone ever broken the e brake cable in their GT-S ? mine went on me the day i put her away for winter (e brake was very weak to begin with wouldnt stop me for shit) curious if anyof you know what i need to do to fix

no you shouldnt be able to drive around with it. the toyotas i think might have drum rear brakes, so theres an auto-adjuster on the shoes, meaning the rear brake shoes are shot. if theyre disk, drum E-brake, they *might* not have a self adjuster. so it *could* just be out of alignment (because you wore the shoes down driving around with the darn brake on!) either way you oughta be able to break traction in front or back before the E-brake lets go.

My Ebrakes wont stop my car either. If I pull it up while going at minimum speed, it lets out a really loud squeel, then the car eventually stops. If I park on a hill and pull it up, it squeels while the car rolls back until it hits the tranny "Park". So in other words, my Ebrake is a POS. anyone got a solution?

Mine holds fine no problems on the gravel it works great to get the rolla sideways thru the bush but i can still drive off with it up if i forget to put it down but it still bogs the engine down enough to know its still on
^^ Heh heh, and that little "BRAKE" light on the dash is a sure tip-off too, isn't it? lol
