Question Please HELP...

Hey guys I just had a few quick questions. My fiance has an 03' Corolla LE Auto. I put a AEM Cold Air Intake on in almost a year ago with no problems. All of a sudden we get a huge storm out here in Southern, CA and she went through some big puddles. She called me this morning and said she heard bubbling sounds coming from the intake and it was lagging at throttle. But after 10 mins. it went away. Lucky it was my day off so I got the tools together and went down to her work and check it out. I took off the filter and it was fine...NOT wet at all. They I took off the tube checkd it and NO water. They I checked the throttle body and NO water. I was like WTF? I guess whatever it was dried out. So I decided to floor it a few times around the business park and NO lag or any bubbling sound. I hope this was a freak thing, because I couldn't find the problem. Anyone have any ideas or have had this happen to them before? Also do you think I should install a bypass valve? I was going to due it a long time ago, but figured NO because we don't get much rain in Southern, CA. Is it a waste of money or is it must? Thanks for the help guys!

AE92 she just sucked some water through the engine

in small quantities, water is harmless. If it get's too much, the engine will stall out. I wouldn't be too worried about it this time, but with those Cold-air intake systems, they remove the shield that is designed to prevent drownings. She should avoid slashing around too much in puddles. Or, get a snorkle.

I hit a puddle with my Lesabre once and it knocked out 2 coils. So I had all of them replaced (3). Then the mechanics siliconed the wiring...never had a problem since.

I would be cautios around puddles from now on if thats the case, I know a guy who thought it would be funny to drive though a puddle fast.
Since he had his pod filter mounted low in the bumper the car (GT4 celica) had a big drink of water and bent all the rods.

Not fun!!

Moral of the story don't drive through deep puddles.

The engine will either suck in water (from being completely submerged in water) or it will breath air (as air is much easier to suck in than water). You were looking for a partially water filled CAI pipe, which just doesn't happen. And yes the filter dried. Consider it a fluke and consider yourself warned. If your filter gets completely submerged in water, you will more than likely hydrolock your motor.

Thanks guys! What do you think of the "bypass valve"? Is it worth it...just in case water gets sucked up again? Please let me know!
