I doubt that Toyota parts department will open up a drive axle box just to see if sr5 axles will work with gts front disk brakes. All they do is look at parts number.
Or, if you have a buddy working at a parts store (a luxury I can't do without anymore), ask him to look into it. My hunch is that the driveaxle lengths might be slightly different between the two models, though the hub assemblies look identical to me.
And who was claiming to "know" that SR5s don't have sway bars? Time to skool them.

axles are identical (except that some mr2/gts cars i've seen with original axles still have the older axles that actually unbolt).... inboard & outboard shafts are the same size & spline count.
i would assume the rack & pinion is the same, the PS pump/reservoir is NOT
front suspension is the same except the sr5 doesn't have serviceable struts
the SR5's don't have FRONT swaybars from factory
