01 & custom exhaust: performance gains

I am considering changing out the stock exhaust on my 01 Corolla S 5-spd and replacing it with custom bent 2 ¼ inch stainless steel tubing and a Raven stainless steel muffler. Will I see any real world performance gain or will it only be perceived performance gain. I will not be racing this car, just using it for everyday driving. What will this mod do to fuel mileage? I do know that it will allow the engine to breath better, however, with the ability to better exhaust the engine will it also allow more air to be sucked into the intake, thereby also causing more fuel to be used as well.

Many people do what they hope to be performance mods, however the added performance is really only in their head. Removing the badging from the trunk lid gained me 5 hp, I think? Well, maybe not quite 5 hp!!

impulse red 01 Corolla S 5-spd
all available options including Moonroof
TRD wheels with 205/45 Toyo Proxis tires
removed all badging from trunklid except S in upper right corner
TRD leather shift knob
removed sun visor warning stickers
(need to keep a look-out for the sticker police)

It doesn't look like it, but I think that Midas might be thier exclusive Canadian distro.

I had a custom non-mendrel bent exhaust for my Prelude awhile ago, lets just say that I get power-lost instead of power gain. Back pressure was lost and the car doesn't feel as peppy as it used to. I then went for a complete system and it was heaven and hell difference.

If going custom, don't go more then 2-2.25" piping, and mendrel bending would help a LOT.
