The only difference after 2005 the Corollas and Matrix with the 1ZZ motor come with drive-by-wire throttle systems, so I believe intakes are harder to find now for this system.

He's right.
If you want a performance corolla why don't you buy the XRS? Even a supercharged 1zz Corolla S can't keep up with a stock XRS in the 1320 or through curves, unless it has a lot of work done to it. THink about it: You could by the S for $15K, put $5K into it (S/C, engine build, tuning, full exaust...) or you could spend the extra $2500-3000 and just buy the XRS and put a few engine mods into it to free it up.
The 2zz is an awesome motor, redlining at 8400 rpms with a 6 spd, producing 170 HP stock, and still getting 32+ mpg. You should seriously consider getting the XRS instead of wasting your time on the S.
Oh yeah, the 06 Corolla S is drive by wire throttle which means no supercharger and tuning is a pain in the ass. The XRS is a cable throttle

so it is easier to build on. Don't waste your time with an intake/exaust on the S, your results will be minimal gains and lots of noise. The S is made for teenage girls who can't handle the XRS, or mislead driving enthusiasts who slip up and buy the wrong car (I'm half joking here

).
Don't buy the S if you want a fast car that handles nicely. In fact, don't get any Corolla if all you care about is performance. Buy the XRS for a fun daily driver that will shock motor swapped hondas and is fun to play with at the track. It is still a one wheel drive 4 door 4 cylinder, but a fun one
