Do this, show up to court early and bargain with the Crown attorney. Tell him you're sorry you were going so fast, blah blah blah, you wanna plead guilty to a lesser fine. Chances are you'll end up paying $30-40
Here's my scenario: Got caught doing 138km/h in a 100km/h zone (HWY 401), OPP officer pulls me over and gives me a ticket for speeding and a ticket for following too close. Officer says to me: "you're lucky I don't give you a wreckless driving ticket, it would cost you a LOT more" At this point I'm being very nice to him and say "sorry officer but I had to be at work for 2pm and its my first day on this shift so I wasn't sure how traffic would be" it was 1:45pm when he pulled me over. When he hands me the ticket I see he wrote 138km/h so I replied "Sir, I wasn't going that fast, I was going about 125km/h" he replies "well that's how fast I had to go to catch up to you, you can take it to court and dispute the charge" So I did and it took almost a year to get a court date.
So add them both up, I have $400+ worth of tickets, $298 for speeding and $105 for following too close, I stand to lose about 3 demerit points maybe 4 I believe. Court date comes around and I show up, the officer is there of course as now they HAVE to show up. About 10minutes before the court is about to start, the judge says: "if anyone would like to talk to the crown rep and discuss their case you can now do so".
So I wait for my turn, talk to the man and of course I say I want to plead guilty to a lesser charge on both tickets. The man looks at me in the eyes and says, I'm sorry but I cannot do that

However, you can plead guilty to one ticket AND I will drop the other charge..

Let's see.. plead guilty to speeding and pay $298 OR plead guilty to following too close and pay $105.

So I plead guilty to the lesser charge out of the 2 and in the end after court cost and everything, I paid $45

that's it! out of $405 worth!!!

I thought I was going to end up paying about $120 but holy shit! did I ever get out of this one with my balls still intact!
So bottom line, it helps if you get 2 tickets, and you always pay less when you show up to court and plead to lesser charges.
