Corolla, Civic Rivalry?

I am wondering does it really exist? Is there any rivalry between these 2 groups at all? I don’t see it much. Also I mean these cars are very similar yet there are many more people who do mods to a Civic than a Corolla, well maybe because the Civic is a bit more stylish. I live in The GTA and I don’t see many mods done on Corollas, so why is there much less of these Corolla enthusiasts?

They are two totally different cars. More aftermarket parts for Honda's than Toyota's. I don't think they are even in the same class. There is no such thing as RIVALRY in the car enthusist world

Rivalry?

I don't think there is much rivalry. I think people mod civics more because there are more mods by more companies out there for the civic.
Thats just my opinion of course.

The only Civic model that would rival is the SIR, I think. SI is pretty much the same as the corolla model.

Civic is used for racing in some leagues in japan... corolla is well... what we've all gotten used to today...

but Honda's engine situation is a lot diff than toyotas... u can pretty much transplant any Honda engine into any Honda chasis with some custom mounts + fabrication (a lot easier than some other conversions from different manufacturers)

The honda civic is probably the most widely supported car for tuning in north america where as the corolla doesn't have as broad of a pallet of parts and options...

Civic vs Corolla? if ur talking 92-2000 civic vs corolla? Civic will probably be the one weilding the advantage (most likely)

but if u go back to the era of pre EG6... well the corolla was a different story... the corolla... had the GTS (AE86, AE92)

I've beaten my buddie's 2000 Civic Si multiple times

My '99 1ZZ-Fe 5speed with Vibrant Short Ram Intake, Vibrant straight thru muffler (stock piping), TRD short shifter.... that's it..

his 2000 Civic Si 5 speed with AEM Intake, Full cat-back exhaust, taylor wires

he pulls ahead through first with the higher rev range... but after that he seems to lack the low end power to keep up with me through the gears... it's close... but I'm slightly ahead.. everytime

there is far more tuning potential for the Civic with all it's aftermarket support... but with enough money and parts.. the 1zz-fe is the better engine

Pre EG civics would mean EFs ... and lemme tell ya, EFs are plenty fast. CRX's are derived from EF Civics. I don't think you could say that the AE86 or AE92's are better than civics of that era ... especially in Japan where they had B16A's in them.

I remember back when we first got started, it wasn't so much a rivalry than it was an exclusion. I think back then we were considered 'the losers with the slow ass Corolla'. My, my... how the tables have turned. The winter beater is faster AND nicer than any of thier cars.

(We need an evil smiley here)

I guess there's a reason why Eric has two Integras, but refuses to even consider a Civic.

And yeah. My bitterness remains in my sig. :p

there is no rivalry,

when you say you're gonna "soup" up a civic:
"ohhh, cool"

when you say you're gonna "soup" up a corolla:
*groans* "wtf are you a dumbass?!"

IMO the base model of the two are in the same class, but honda made a good move by expanding their civic models, you have a normal family sedan, or a sporty-look civic coupe, or the type R for performance groups

what did toyota do (in North America)?? nothing, besides the corolla S which is the same as the base corolla, outside NA, thats a different story.

the AE (4age equipped) corollas is a different story for another thread

Of corse it does. Many people forget and neglect The Trueno/Levin BZR a 160hp match for the Civic SiR no? I don't know where they think those 20V engines come from. Toyota and Honda both car manufactures thet compete against eachother (for sales thoe). I've seen Toyota/Corolla forums flame Civics like mad and vice versa with Honda/Civic forums.

Thoe I my self don't get into it. People don't realise it is not the cars they hate but the drivers and the stupid **** that they do. I've seen people equally rice a corolla to the level I've seen many Civics. So ricers hating ricers??? I don't get it. Some times I kinda see the hate for Civics in jelousy over the avaliability of mods. But there are plenty out there. You just have to get off your *** and look. Then on the other end of the spectrum with some of the Civic guys I've talked to they say why bother with a corolla. You should just get a civic. When I hear that it pisses me off. But I don't hate the civic I hate the person who says that. They see the Corolla as a worthless piece of **** that is not worth the time.

Well said Voodoo. I've seen enough bashing of cars. Sure everyone is allowed their own opinion but respect others for their visions and their choices. Cars are as individual as the people who drive them. There are pros and cons to each. That's why I got both :P

They only say it's not worth their time, because they're just lazy to get the sh!t for the car.. while a civic is WORTH their time because you can go to 7-11 and buy anything for a Civic now a days.. if you know what I mean.

TRD product is just way to pricey, that's why it hasn't taken off as much, i mean look at all the cheap parts u can get for a civic, there is just so much competition, they gotta make their prices low to keep up.

true, toyota/TRD stuff is expensive, thats why getting a civic is CONVIENIENT

walk into pacific mall and you have a shop with a rack full of parts for it

no need to search everywhere for parts, save on shipping, save time

you can't do the same for the corollas
